Part time Youth Worker Wanted
St Andrew Blackadder Church, North Berwick

St Andrew Blackadder Church believes that God wants every teenager in North Berwick to hear the good news of Jesus Christ in a way that makes sense to them so they can consider becoming one of his disciples.  In order to help us participate more effectively in this mission we want to appoint a half time youth worker.

The salary we are offering is between £23,500 - £25,000 pa pro rata
The job is based in North Berwick

This is an opportunity
to use and develop your God given gifts;
to grow in faith as you share it with others;
to be part of a dynamic movement of Growing Young;
to experience God’s help as you share in a challenging task which will stretch you;
to be part of a team who will support you and in turn rely on you; to work among a congregation who will pray for you and root for you;
to apply for a permanent post.

For more information read on and then contact our minister Neil Dougall:
ndougall@churchofscotland.org.uk, or 01620 895233

We are looking for a person who
is a Christian and is committed to living as a disciple;
is in sympathy with St Andrew Blackadder’s vision and values and is willing to commit to them;
has a heart for young people and has a handle on the world they live in;
is eager to help teenagers encounter Jesus Christ and explore what it means to follow him;
is keen to help St Andrew Blackadder relate to North Berwick High School, expressing God’s interest in it in tangible ways, and aware of how this can be done well; has some experience of Youth work, (paid or unpaid, Christian or secular);
is imaginative and resourceful, able to work in a team and on their own.

St Andrew Blackadder Church has a strong youth fellowship. About 20 high school age young people are part of it. It is led by a team of volunteers.  We want to build on this, particularly by strengthening the connection with North Berwick High School.

The main responsibilities of this position will be to
find a way of adding to the life of North Berwick High School (eg through sport, drama, pupil support);
set up an extra-curricular group where pupils can come and find out about Jesus and following him;
support the Friday night youth club which aims to build a bridge between the Church and teenagers who are not part of the Youth Fellowship;
support the work of the Youth Fellowship which mainly meets on Sunday mornings;
work in partnership with the Youth Worker in Abbey Church whose focus is Law Primary School in North Berwick.

You will
be managed by the minister
work collaboratively with the Youth Fellowship team
work between 16 and 20 hours a week; our preference is 20 hours (0.5 FTE) but if 16 hours (0.4 FTE) suits you better we’re open to that possibility;
work on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings and you will be expected to be in North Berwick three days a week;
be provided with an office base in the Church and the equipment and resources you need for your role;
be prayed for and supported by the entire congregation.

The salary we are offering is in the range of £23,500 - £25,000 pa pro rata depending on hours and experience.  We want to make a permanent rather than a time limited appointment.

If you think God might be calling you to this role, and you think you have the gifts and experience that could help St Andrew Blackadder Church respond to what God is calling it to do, please get in touch with Neil Dougall our minister. He’d love to tell you more and explain the application process.   Contact him at ndougall@churchofscotland.org.uk, or phone the Church office on 01620 892132

Notes.
Since this work falls within the definition of Regulated Work, any appointment will be subject to you obtaining PVG clearance, you providing a complete employment history and this being confirmed by your referees. The commitment to Christ required for this post is a genuine occupational requirement in terms of the Equality Act 2010.
