Church and Society
Remit
To facilitate Presbytery's active engagement with economic, social and political issues in Midlothian and East Lothian, through –
(a) theological reflection and the formulation of practical policies for Presbytery to consider and decide upon;
(b) representing Presbytery to the wider Church and civic communities on pertinent issues of Presbytery policy;
(c) developing ecumenical and inter-faith links with faith and civic groups working with broadly similar remits;
(d) serving Presbytery's congregations by encouraging them in direct action as they engage with their work in relevant fields at local level;
(e) considering and recommending proposals on a range of Church and Society Council remits handed down by the General Assembly each year;
(f) offering Presbytery the option of an annual conference session on a key Church and Society topic, facilitated by the Committee; and
(g) monitoring the Church and Society workload to ensure that priority is consistently given to that action which is most likely to advance Christ's Kingdom in our community, in our nation and in our world.
